FA and the manager of the English Premier League had held a closed meeting to address the spread of the corona virus
The spread of the corona virus in the UK has increased rapidly in the last 24 hours. British Health Minister Matt Hancock said at least 51 people had been contaminated with the virus there.
"As of 9:00 today there are 51 confirmed cases in the UK and this is more likely we will witness widespread transmission here in this country," Hancock said at a meeting with the British parliament on Tuesday 3 March 2020 local time.
That number increased from what was announced the previous day, which was 39 cases. The rapid increase in cases of the Corona virus was feared to have an impact on a number of events such as the English League.
British media The Guardian said that the English Football Association (FA) and the manager of the English Premier League had held a closed meeting to address the spread of the corona virus. They discussed contingency plans if the British government would later ban the event by mass gathering in large numbers.
However, there has been no official statement from the FA or the English League manager related to the results of the meeting. According to the same report, both parties will try to keep the English League going according to plan.
There are a number of options, for example holding a match without an audience. This is a consideration of the authority of the English League referring to the action in other leagues in Europe such as the Serie A Italian League and the Champions League.
